What is Arthritis? What are the different kind of Arthritis? Arthritis is not a natural part of aging. Even children can get arthritis. Arthritis is not a modern ailment - it has been with us since the beginning to time. There's two major types of Arthritis:

Osteoarthritis is where the cartilage between the joints is gradually eroded away. The typical age of onset is over 40 and develop slowly, over many years. There's no single specific cause. Experts believe genes, injury, excess body weight and injury and overuse of the joints may all play a part in the process. It affects only certain joints especially knees, hips, spine and the other end of the fingers. Joint mobility may become limited, and movement may be accompanied by a grating sensation. In the later stages, inflammation, enlargement of the joint and muscle constracture may occur.

Rheumatoid arthritis may affect from age 25 to 50. It is an autoimmune disorder, where the body's immune system attacks it's own tissue. It usually affects many joints, especially the wrists, elbows and shoulders, on both sides of the body. Some notice it at first in the knuckles, feet and wrists. Causes redness, warmth, swelling and prolonged morning stiffness. Often causes a feeling of general sickness and fatigue, as well as weight loss and fever.

Allergies trigger inflammation and can aggravate arthritic symptoms, especially those of rheumatoid Arthritis, so check for possible allergies. If the blood is is too acidic, the cartilage in the joints may dissolve. The joint lose their smooth sliding motion and the bones rub together and the joints become inflammed and cause pain.

Omega -3 essential fatty acids found in fish may alleviate symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis by suppressing the immune system reaction that causes joint inflammation. Chlamydia, the organism responsible for many cases of urethritis, has been linked to a form of arthritis that affects young women. Most chiropractors and osteopaths that women should avoid wearing high heeled shoes as eventually it will lead to arthritis of the knees.

Spend time outdoors for fresh air and sunshine. Exposure to the sun prompts the synthesis of Vitamin D-3 which is needed for proper bone formation. Get regular moderate exercise. Exercise is essential for reducing pain and retarding joint deterioration. an exercise that does not put stress on affected joints but that strengthens surrounding bones, muscles and ligaments. Maintain an ideal weight. Being overweight can cause and aggravate osteoarthritis.

Avoid night-shade vegetables such as peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and white potatoes as they contain solanine which interferes enzyme in the muscle and any cause pain and discomfort. Eat some form of fiber, such as ground flax seeds, oat bran or rice bran daily. Eat fresh pineapple frequently as they contain bromelain, an enzyme that is excellent for reducing inflammation. Noni, known as "sacred plant" to Polynesian people in the South Pacific, has been used for over 2,000 years for pain, arthritis and other health problems. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. It is good for in-flammatory condition such as arthritis. The recommended dose is 600 mg. daily. Sit up straight- good posture can protect and preserve the joints in your neck and back, and even in your hips and knees.

Other things to consider:- Lyme disease can mimic arthritis, causing many of the same symptoms. Systemid lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that often manifests itself as arthritis. For reasons unknown, the body produces antibodies' that act against it's own tissues. Kawasaki syndrome is an infectious disease that can cause symptoms of arthritis in children. Gout is another type of arthritis occurs most often in people who are overweight and who indulge regularly in rich foods and alcohol, so do with ankylosing spondylitis that affects the spine, causing stiffness, inflammation and changes in posture.
