Young people more often experience mild form of depression or blues. Blues are usually temporary and do not last longer than a few days. Some situation that can trigger depression are loss of loved one, serious terminal illness, injuries, aging, loneliness and change of body chemistry.
Dr. Steven Locks studied the levels of stress among college students. He calls those who had high levels of depression and anxiety as “poor copers” and he found them to have lower immune function. Men have difficulty in coping since they express emotional pain differently from women. Men refuse to talk about their depression so their symptoms are not always recognized or detected.
