How serious is Pneumonia

How serious is Pneumonia
Pneumonia is a serious infection of the lungs that can be caused by any of the multiple different infectious agents, including viruses, fungi, bacteria, protozoa, and mycoplasma. Although symptoms vary in intensity, they usually include fever, chills, cough, bloody sputum, muscle aches, fatigue, sore throat, enlarged lymph glands in the neck, cyanosis (bluish color of the skin and nails), pain in the chest, and rapid, difficult respiration.

Bacterial pneumonia can be very dangerous and may come on suddenly or gradually, as a complication of some other health problems such as respiratory disease, weakened immune system or viral infection. No matter what the cause, pneumonia usually leaves the sufferer with weakness that persists to eight weeks after the acute phase of the infection has resolved. If you suspect that you have pneumonia, you have to see your Doctor. The use of antibiotics for minor infection such as colds may lead to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the upper airway, which can cause pneumonia.

The pneumococcal vaccine provides protection against more than twenty different strains
of microorganism that can cause pneumonia. It is recommended for anyone without a
Spleen, anyone with a chronic disease (especially diseases that affect the lungs), everyone over the age 65. Ask your Doctor for the vaccine and it will protect you for 5 years. If you are taking antibiotics for pneumonia, take acidophilus in capsule or liquid form three times each day or eat yogurt that has the components of acidophilus. Drink plenty of fresh fruit juices. Liquid helps to thin the lung excretion. Use a cool mist from a humidifier or vaporizer to help ease breathing.

Exclude dairy products, sugar and white flour product from your diet. Place a heating pad or a hot water bottle on your chest to relieve pain. Ginger is an effective antimicrobial agent and is helpful for fever. So make "Arroz Caldo" with ginger and lots of onions. Take Vitamin C with bioflavonoid 1000 mg- very important for immune response and inflammation. Take as well Vitamin E 400 units with d-alpha-tocopherol form twice a day before meals - a potent antioxidant that protect the lung tissues and enhance oxygen utilization. Vitamin A deficiency increases susceptibility to respiratory infections, which in turn can lead to pneumonia.

Pneumonia infection causes tiny sacs in the lung area to become inflamed and filled with mucus and pus, inhibiting oxygen from reaching the blood.
