There are many other causes of dementia- and many of them are treatable. Some of these are effects of prescription drugs- some cases with victims younger than 65. Another one is depression- especially if memory and concentration problems are accompanied by sleep disturbance, weight loss or diminished interest in daily activities; diseases of the body's other organ system such as heart, kidney, lungs or blood; alcohol abuse; vitamin deficiencies; tick-borne Lyme disease and disorders of the thyroid, pituitary or adrenal glands.
To avoid misdiagnoses, make sure the person is evaluated by a medical professional
who has special training and experience in diagnosis and treatment of the brain and
aging. Then ask also for 2ND opinion. For self defense-take Vitamin A and carotene
supplements or see a Doctor for appropriate doses of supplements.
