Whole Grains Can Help Your Heart

According to Dietary Guidelines eating whole grains is good to your heart. Base on experiment in Harvard School of Public Health, study shows from 42,850 men, those who ate more than 25 grams of whole grains per day cut their risk of heart disease by about 15%. Those who ate more 11 grams of bran, the highest-fiber part of whole grains, and cut risk by 30% they said.

Good sources include brown rice, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, pop corn and bran muffins.

The researchers are trying to figure out how whole grains help the heart. It could be fiber, plant sterols or other nutrients lower cholesterol or it maybe the antioxidants, which help protect against hardening of the arteries. Perhaps it’s the fact that eating them will make you feel full and thus may help prevent obesity, a risk factor for heart disease.

Three servings of whole grains will easily get you 25 grams. Don’t like the texture? Food makers are working on whole grain bread that you’ll swear is white.
